Along excursion routes through different landscape types of Azerbaijan the Landscape-Ecological Excursion Field Guide offers detailed scientific information, maps and GPS data. Detailed descriptions of vegetation, soil and land use along a transect from coastal areas of the Caspian Sea to the Alpine zone of the Greater Caucasus are included. The guide allows teachers as well as students to organise excursions independently and scientifically well-grounded. It is based on a landscape-ecology summer school for German and Azerbaijani students carried out by the Succow Foundation and project partners.

Leaflets on paludiculture are now available for download in Estonian, Lithuanian as well as in Latvian - here separately on paludiculture on bogs and on paludiculture on fens. The information material, originally edited by the Succow Foundation and the Greifswald Mire Centre, was translated by Baltic partners within the project Paludiculture in the Baltics - Potential and Capacities for climate protection through productive use of rewetted peatlands which is financed within the European Climate Initiative.
The project analyses whether drained peatland areas in the Baltic states can be rewetted and sustainably used, and - if so - which ones. These measures could effectively reduce CO2-emissions, create altenative sources of income and conserve peatlands as habitat for highly specialised species. The leaflets have already been presented to ministries, organisations and research institutions of all Baltic states and were met with great interest.

Kick-off for IKI-Project at Amudarya

15. 6. 2018, 11:25 by NK

It took about six years to negotiate the framework for the implementation of a project of the International Climate Initiative among the governments of Uzbekistan and Germany. Therefore cannot be underestimated that the inception workshop of GIZ and Michael Succow Foundation for the start of the IKI Amudarya project was held at 11 June. The project aims at Ecosystem based Adaptation (EbA) and strengthening the management of a recently established biosphere reserve at the Lower Reaches of Amudarya in Uzbekistan. At the same time, a three year project on Sustainable land- and water management of Tugai Forests funded by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Develpoment was successfully completed. It built a solid bases for measures to be continued for the coming two and a half years.

Flora of Central Asia virtual

29. 5. 2018, 14:19 by NK

The project Central Asian Virtual Flora (CAViF) aims to secure 1.5 mln herbar samples of the Tashkent Central Herbar (TASH), a collection of 170 years of botanists field exploration surveys, for future generations. The team of botanists and database experts will facilitate and conduct trainings for the TASH staff in order to get started with the long-term digitization of the herbar.
Thus the unique treasure becomes preserved and online accessible to a wide range of international scientists, nature conservation practicionairs and amateur botanists. The flora of Uzbekistan consists of 4,350 species of native vascular plants, among them many of economic value, nationally or internationally threatend and cultural-historically outstanding species. About 400 species are nationally endemic.
The project is financed under the founding line „Pilot measures for partnerships in science, research and education with the Central Asian and South Caucasus countries“ of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
