Short films show the beauty of the World Heritage Site of the Hyrcanian Forests

With the three-part short film series, the Succow Foundation, together with partners, wants to draw attention to the breathtaking nature and culture of the Hyrkanian Forests, which stretch from southern Azerbaijan to Iran.

 

The film "Guardians of the Forests" is about the people who live in the Hyrkanian region and shows how important the ancient forest is for their daily lives.It is about the local communities of these area and how rooted they are there. Their ancestors have been living in these forests, their identity is linked to these forests and the current generation is trying to find new ways to live sustainably with the forest and to protect it.

„Culture and diversity“ explains briefly the human history in this region and how the culture in this region is associated to the nature. Just like the ancient nature, the cultural manifestations appear to be quite rich and diverse.

The film, entitled "Our world heritage, the Hyrcanian Forests", shows the value of the Hyrcanian Forests to the international community and explains what the project is about. It was produced by the Succow Foundation to raise awareness of the importance of the successful inscription of the Hyrcanian Forests on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The short films are shown at national events and also at events in Iran and are also intended to educate the international community about the environment and cultural characteristics of this region.

This project “Supporting Azerbaijan and Iran in the transnational expansion of the Hyrcanian Forests World Heritage Site” is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment with funds from the Advisory Assistance Program (BHP) for environmental protection in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, as well as other countries bordering the European Union, and is accompanied by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) and the German Federal Environmental Agency (UBA).
