In Central Asian countries the number of conservation sites using SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool) is increasing rapidly. A recent survey conducted by Wildlife Conservation Society identified 41 protected areas using the tool.
Recently, conservationists involved in SMART roll out in this region have formed a workgroup to provide technical support, and advocate for the institutionalization of SMART by national authorities responsible for protected area management.
The Michael Succow Foundation, alongside Conservation X Labs, Fauna & Flora International (FFI), GIZ-ILUCA, Ilbirs Foundation, and Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), is one of the founding members of this workgroup.
