Call for Abstracts: Regional Conference “Human-wildlife conflicts in Central Asia”

The conference addresses resource-use conflicts between humans and wild animals in Central Asia that arise from the shared use of resources and habitats. Such conflicts often lead to economic losses and threaten wildlife populations if protective measures are not taken. Sustainable solutions are needed to balance the needs of both sides.

For participation in the conference from 5-6 March 2025 in Almaty (Kazakhstan), abstracts can be submitted until 20 January 2025.

The conference will be organized by the Succow Foundation together with the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ACBK) within the framework of the GIZ regional program “Integrative and Climate-sensitive Land Use in Central Asia (ILUCA).

The aim of the conference is to share experiences and successful practices for human-wildlife conflict resolution in Central Asia in order to develop effective measures to address the problem. Target groups are scientists, staff of nature conservation governmental structures and NGOs, protected area staff, specialists in the field of agriculture and land use working in Central Asia. 

Abstracts for participation in the conference can be submitted in the following fields, among others:

  • Human-wild ungulates conflicts, 
  • human-wild predatory mammals conflicts, 
  • legislative bases of conflict resolution or modern approaches to human-wildlife conflict resolution.
